Verifying your YouTube account is a quick and easy process that allows you to have access many features non-verified users don't have.

A couple reasons to verify your YouTube account:

1. You can use a custom thumbnail for your video. YouTube usually auto-creates a thumbnail from your video to use. If you verify your account though you can create your own. Sometimes all it takes is a ‘flashy’ thumbnail for a student to want to view a video.

2. The main reason to verify your YouTube account is so you can upload videos that are longer than 15 minutes. YouTube puts a time limit on your uploads until you verify your account. So, if you want to upload a lecture you recorded and it’s over 15 minutes, you can’t upload it until you verify your account.

How to Verify your YouTube Account:

Step 1: Sign into YouTube and click your profile button at the top right of the page.

Step 2: Click ‘Creator Studio.’

Step 3: Click the ‘Channel’ tab.

Step 4: Click ‘Verify.’

Step 5: Click ‘Verify My Identity.’

Step 6: Next, you’ll be asked to submit your telephone number so YouTube can send you a verification code to help to verify your account.

Step 7: YouTube will then either text or call, depending on which option you choose, and will give you your verification code.

Step 8: Once you receive your code enter it into the ‘Verification code’ box and click ‘Verify.'

Step 9: Once you enter your code, you’ll be brought to another screen where you will have to verify your gender, birthday, etc. Once you do that just click ‘Continue’ and your account will then be verified!
