SCC Employees Password Update Assistance

This is a documentation to assist Stanly Community College Employees with updating their SCC password and troubleshooting password issues. We’ve listed the main topics below for easy access. How SCC Password Works.

Stanly Community College Employees use the same username and password for WebAdvisor, Moodle, Global Protect VPN, SCC Gmail, SCC Wireless networks, My-Page Login, Outlook, Outlook Webapp, Office 365, SCC Skype, and a few other websites ending in stanly.edu. WebAdvisor no longer controls the passwords expiration, and is now controlled through Active Directory. This is great news and means the majority of Stanly Community College Websites can now prompt you to change your password when it expires, which will make it significantly easier to update. Hopefully, this documentation will help you figure out the best path for updating, or resetting, your password and make the process a lot simpler for all devices. You can also use this documentation to help troubleshoot account login and lockout issues. You can update your password a few different ways and below list the different options for employees. Please keep in mind that the less you save your password in browsers and other applications the easier it be to update your password and less chance of your account becoming locked. Also, GMail is not able to prompt users when an SCC password expires and will not allow you to login until the password is updated. If you are not able to log into GMail, then try logging into another SCC Website like Self-service and see if it prompts you to change your password. I’ve also included a link below to a public knowledge base that can assist with resolving GMail login issues.


Password Reset and Update options

1.The SCC Password Reset Page: This page should only be used to reset your password in emergency situations, or if you have forgotten your password and can be accessed by going to https://changepw.stanly.edu. This option does require you to enter in verifying information such as, full name, SS#, Employee#, username and Birthdate.


2.SCC Update Password Page: You can visit the link below and update your password, but you must know your current password. This is the same page you will see when your password expires and a Stanly Community College website prompts you to change it.

3.Update Password Using your computer before it expires: Log into your computer and select the CTRL+ALT+DELETE button on your keyboard, then select the Change a password link. This is probably the simplest option to use and does not require you to enter in verifying information since you are already logged in, but does require you know your current password. Also, this only works while on SCC Campus, or connected through VPN.


4.Password Expired notification: You can wait until your password expires and let one of the SCC services prompt you to change it. Once your password expires, you will either be notified by one of the SCC Websites to change your password, or you will be prompted the next time you log into an SCC computer on campus. If a Stanly website or computer prompts you to update your expired password, it will automatically redirect you the correct place to update it.


Now that you understand the options for updating your password at SCC, now you will need a plan for getting the password updated on all your devices and applications. We’ve provided some information below on how to update your password on different types of devices and applications. Once your password has been changed, then you will need to update it on each device you use, or your account may become locked because it’s still trying to use the old password. You may even want to complete some of the steps before you actually create your new password, such as clearing wireless passwords on Mobile devices, and clearing passwords in browsers. I recommend clearing your old password on all devices before you create your new password.We’ve provided recommend steps below to use when updating your password using a browser and updating at when being prompted by your computer.

Clear saved passwords in Windows Credential Manager for Microsoft Apps.

If you use the Outlook client, and other office 365 desktop apps on a Windows 7, 8.1 or 10, then you may need to clear your old credentials from the Windows Credential Manager. You will be prompted to enter in new credentials the next time you open the app. We’ve provided a link below to a knowledge base explaining how to clear your credentials in Windows Credential Manager.

Clear saved passwords in browsers.

If you save passwords in browsers for Stanly Community College web pages, then you need to clear your old passwords after a password change and before accessing the site again. This would be saved passwords for sites ending in.EDU and in browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome. I’ve provided some documentations below, each explaining how to clear passwords in the three most commonly used browsers.

Clear saved wireless passwords on devices.

If you are on campus and use SCC-Secure or SCC-Guest wireless, then you need to clear your wireless settings by forgetting the network. Devices that could possibly access wireless networks are: mobile phones, iPads, Laptops, and/or tablets. Update your password on an SCC computer.

If you update your password while logged into an SCC computer, then soon as you are done, lock your computer and log back in with the new password. You can lock your computer by selecting the Windows Key + L shortcut combination on your keyboard. Below shows an image of the Window key on a keyboard. I recommend learning this shortcut and using to lock your computer anytime you leave it unattended and in a hurry.

If you are using the laptop or tablet with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and connected to the network wirelessly, then you will need to update the SCC-Secure password before you log in. We’ve provided a link below to a knowledge base explaining how to update your SCC-Secure password from the login screen. This also works if you are logging into the laptop, or tablet for the first time.


Update your password for SCC Employee email on a Mobile Device.

If you have your Exchange, or Outlook, email added to your mobile phone and/or iPad, then it will need to be updated soon after you change your password. Not doing so, could cause your account to become locked. Also, the email will not work until you update the password. I’ve provided some links below for directions on how to update the password on each type of device. Update your password in the Global Protect VPN client.

You will need to update the password in the Global Protect VPN client each time you update your password. We’ve provided a link below to a knowledge base with directions on how to update it.

Below shows an example of the live chat window. We can only handle login issues over the phone, or chat.
