I need some general "how to" technology help. Where can I look?
We have a growing online library of narrated, interactive learning objects that demonstrate how to complete various tech tasks. Examples range from how to use MS Word to create an MLA formatted document to how to narrate a PowerPoint presentation. The library is housed at http://www.stanly.edu/learning/learnobj.html. If you have an idea for a learning object, send it julrich7442@stanly.edu

When can I start using my online course?
Your account will be ready for you to use by the third day of the semester. The ID will not work prior to that time. If you add a course after the beginning of the semester, it may take a day or two for the account to be set up. Once you log in to WebCT, you will find a link to take you to each online course you are taking. You should find information from your instructor on the course home page for what to do first in your course. In addition, your instructor should provide you with details about adjusting your browser so that it will work properly with WebCT.

What is the Connect-ED Emergency Notification System and how does it work?
Stanly Community College has recently implemented the Connect-ED® service to allow school administration and security professionals the ability to reach all students and staff with time-sensitive information during unforeseen events or emergencies using voice, email and text messaging. During critical situations, SCC officials can use the system to broadcast pertinent information and provide details on appropriate response. This information will not be shared with other entities and it will be kept private and confidential. This is used only for Stanly Community College communication purposes with you.
Please provide your most current contact information now by logging into the student portal at http://webadvisor.stanly.edu. If you have any additional questions not answered here, please contact the Help Desk at 704-991-0222.
The Connect-ED service combines the power of the Internet with the pervasiveness of the telephone to give users an affordable and easy-to-use tool to reach out to their communities. Users record a voice message in their own voice using just a telephone or type a message to be sent to text receiving devices. In all, the multi-modal service helps officials reach out to students and staff via:
Voice messages to home, work, and cell phones
Text messages to cell phones, PDAs and other text-based devices
Written messages to e-mail accounts
Messages to TTY/TDD receiving devices for the hearing impaired
